Bill was born in Hartford, CT on October 20,
1922 to the late Henry J. and Anna Mullen Robinson. He graduated at the top
of his class from St. Vincents College in Latrobe, Pennsy-lvania where he
earned a degree in Chemistry. Following graduation he attained his pilots
license and recently had revisited the sight where he landed his first solo
flight in a field in Indiana, PA. He taught chemistry briefly before
enlisting in the United States Navy. Once in the Navy, he served as
Lieutenant Junior Grade aboard PT 220 and as Captain aboard a minesweeper in
the South Pacific. He was awarded with numerous awards and medals for bravery
and valor. After his discharge from the navy, he began working for Universal
Oil Products in Illinois. After moving to Delaware he began his career at the
Dupont Company as a senior research engineer. He held numerous patents with
the Dupont company. He retired in 1982 from the Chambers Works in Deepwater,
NJ. During retirement he traveled extensively with his wife Alverta
throughout the United States, Europe, Hawaii, and the Carribean. He was past
commander of the Delaware Veterans of World War II, Post 1, a member of PT
Boats Inc., a member of Peter Tare - Officers Association, and the Fraternal
Order of Police, Pennsville, New Jersey. Bill was an extremely passionate
reader and wonderful story teller. An advocate of education, he made it a
priority to incorporate learning into all of his travels. Bill will be fondly
remember for his kindness, generosity, and exuberance in life. He was predeceased by his brothers Henry J.
Richard, and Fred, and a sister Rita Carmody. He was married to the late
Eleanor S. Robinson, and predeceased by a daughter, Mary Anne Himelburger. He
is survived by his beloved wife, Alverta P. Robinson of Pennsville, NJ, son
William T. Robinson Jr. of Key West, FL, step son, Edwin Battistella of
Oregon, step son, Brian Battistella of Newark, DE, daughter, Kathleen Bayard,
and husband Alexis of Wilmington, DE, step daughter, Janet V. Watkins of
Newark, DE and 5 grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Bayard, and Alisha, Robert,
and Tenielle Watkins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend
the funeral service on Friday, October 10 at 11:30 am at the DOHERTY FUNERAL
HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek where friends may call after 10 am.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made
to C.E.R.T.S. Inc. Adult Action Center at 13 Independence Way Newark,
Delaware 19713 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at Two Mill
Road, Suite 106 Wilmington, Delaware 19806. |
