JOSEPH H. MCGLINCHY
Joe was born in Wilmington to Joseph H. and Mary
McGlinchy and graduated from Wilmington High School, class of 1936. He
attended the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. A decorated combat
veteran of WWII, Joe served from 1941-1945 in the U.S. Army, stationed in the
European theatre, and was awarded the Bronze Star. After his service to our
country, Joe worked for E.I. DuPont Co. in the Auditing Division of the
Treasurer's Department. In his spare time, he was a member and Past Commander
of Delaware Veterans of WWII and also had served on the Board of St. Edmond's
Academy. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. Joe's wife of 49 years, Helen M. McGlinchy, died in
1997. He was also preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Charles S. and John P.
McGlinchy. He is survived by 2 sons, Joseph H. McGlinchy and his wife Nancy,
T. James McGlinchy and his fiancée Linda Travers, 2 daughters and
sons-in-law, Anne M. and Samuel Merrick and Mary M. and John Massie; and 4
grandchildren, Daniel, Elizabeth and Matthew Merrick and Charles Massie. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30am, Tuesday,
March 31 at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville
(Route 202, south of Silverside Rd.) followed at 11am by The Mass of
Christian Burial at The Church of The Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd. Interment
will be at Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring
