AGE: 77 • Wilmington

http://ak-cache.legacy.net/legacy/images/Cobrands/DelawareOnline/Photos/WNJ041388-1_20150704.jpgWilliam E. "Bill" Marshall, age 77, of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 27, 2015. Bill graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and went to work as a mail runner for the Wilmington Trust Company before serving proudly in the US Marine Corps. After his military service he returned to Wilmington Trust where he worked his way up the ladder, retiring as an AVP after 44 years of service. Bill was a true renaissance man who was very smart (a MENSA member), athletic (baseball), a lover and player of music (guitar) and a lover of words and reading with a gift for writing. He was a talented painter and sketch artist, frequently exhibiting his work at the Brandywine Arts Festival and serving on the Wilmington Trust Executive Art Committee. He was proud of his humble ancestry on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia, and its people and places were frequent subjects of his paintings. He was fascinated with military history and was a lifetime member of Ft. Delaware Society , the Marine Corp League - Gen. Thomas Holcomb Detachment and DelVets Post #1 . His humanity was reflected in many ways, as a mentor for the United Way and as a coach for Concord Little League, where every child who wanted to play got to play regardless of their skill or the score. He greeted strangers as if they were already friends and is known for the decency and respect with which he treated everyone.

Bill is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marilyn Knowles Marshall; son, Craig Marshall; daughter, Dana Marshall; 4 step daughters: Cynthia Lyster (Gregg), Pamala Cowen (James); Beverly Carpenter (Curt), and Sheila Pfeifenroth; 8 grandchildren: Olivia, Claudia, Berkeley, Brett, Matthew (Melissa), Katelyn, Rebecca, and Kelly; 1 great grandchild, Collin; and brother, Vincent Marshall (Barbara) and his dog Meeko. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerna and Alma Marshall; and son, Brett Marshall.
