John Edward Mahek,
Sr. John
Edward Mahek, Sr. age 65 of Claymont, DE, and
Harrisburg, PA, died on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at home, surrounded by his
family. John was a 1969 graduate of Salesianum High
School. He was an employee of First Student School Bus Company, and Giant Supermarket.
He was a member of Delaware Veterans Post # 1, and Claymont Moose Lodge. John
was an Army Reserve Veteran. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Elease Mahek Cope;his grandson, Stephen Cope, Jr.; his stillborn
child; and brother, Mike Mahek. John
is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lynn D. Mahek
of Claymont, DE; his daughter, Katherine Brown and her husband Al of
Magnolia, DE; his son, John Mahek, Jr. and his wife
Christie and their children, Brittney, and Tanner of Townsend, DE; his grandson,
Nathan Cope of Baltimore, MD; his son, Adam Mahek,
Sr. of Claymont, DE, his grandson, Adam Mahek, Jr.
of Rising Sun, MD. He is also survived by his brothers, Jim, and Joe. The
family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Himelstein,
and Dana Miller, and the staff of Hematology Oncology, and Delaware Hospice
for their compassion and wonderful care. Friends
may visit with the family on Monday Evening, February 22, 2016, at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont,
DE 19703, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Mass
of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday Morning, February 23, 2016 at
11:00am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE.
Burial will be private in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd
Floor, Newark, DE 19711; or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 100 W.
