Thomas B. Lewis  

Text Box:  TOM LEWIS (Red) age 86 , who was Mayor and a Commissioner of the Town of Henlopen Acres from 1989 to 2000, passed away Jan. 4, 2010.

Born July 30, 1923, the son of the late William T. and Mary A. Lewis of Wilmington. Tom graduated from Wilmington High School in 1942.

He served in World War II as a paratrooper with the 187th Combat Team of the 11th Airborne Division. He was awarded The Presidential Unit citation and the bronze medal for valor. He served as Vice Chairman of the Brandywine Hundred Democratic Committee, and two terms as Commander of The Delaware Veterans of World War II. He spent 43 years in the newspaper business.

He is survived by Doris Albom Lewis his wife of 65 years; daughter, Valerie, and son-in-law, Dr. Keith Oken, of Ponte Veda Beach, Fla; son, Thomas B. Lewis ,Jr ., and daughter-in- law, Muffy Watson of New Canaan, Conn., and six grandchildren Zachary, Riley, Hayes, Brandon and his wife Davidson of Florida; and Whitney, Sam and Elizabeth of Connecticut.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday Jan. 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Edmonds Roman Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel Streets, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Burial will be private in Epworth Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach, DE.

In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Delaware Veterans post # 1, Veterans Drive Wilmington, DE 19810.
