Michael B. Kavanaugh (1947 - 2016)

Michael B. Kavanaugh passed away peacefully in his sleep on November the 23, 2016 in the early morning the day before Thanksgiving.

"Uncle" Michael, aka "Houdini" (from the official records of The Yard) was born in Wilmington DE, on July 20, 1947 to the late Gerard P and Ann B Kavanaugh.

Mike graduated from Christ Our King, Salesianum (class of '66), University of Delaware, and University of Wilmington where he received a Master of Business Administration.

Mike served courageously in the US Marine Corps. He proudly served his country through 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in August of 1969 at the rank of Lance Corporal.

After completing his military service and his education, Michael worked for the City of Wilmington and the County of New Castle in labor relations. After leaving his job with the County, he studied in England and became a Reliability Maintenance expert. Thereafter until retirement, he consulted around the world in the mining, manufacturing, and oil industries.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, his brothers Jerry and Stephen, and his Uncle Sonny. He is survived by a large loving family of nieces, nephews, and cousins; his brothers Tim and Richard; his sisters-in-law Nancy and Denise; his cousin Kathy; his "Aunt Audrey"; and Loghan and Graham Dougherty to whom he'd been a loving "grandfather."

A viewing will be held at Chandler Funeral Homes, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington DE 19803 at 2pm on December 4, 2016 and will be followed by services at 3pm.
