H. DOUGLAS JAY Jr.

A resident of Brandywine Hundred in DE, and Cape May, NJ, passed away July 23, 2006.

Doug was a retired manager from a local utility. He was born and raised in Scranton, PA, and held a bachelor's degree from the University of Scranton, where he was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society. He attended Lehigh University for master credits. He served in the army with the 24th infantry division and was first sergeant of the 8007th A.F.R.S. detachment in Japan and Korea. He received the Gold Mike Award for his interview of the mayor of Nagasaki and various English speaking Japanese, residents of the city during the atomic bombing. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and also the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, since being a direct descendent of participants in those conflicts. Mr. Jay was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Delaware Veterans Post #1, the 24th Infantry Division Association, and the Armed Forces Broadcasters Association. Mr. Jay was active in Masonic circles, being a member of Brandywine Lodge #33, Delaware Consistory, Nur Temple Shrine, the Legion of Honor, the Bedford Club, and the Shrine Club. He was past president of both the Masonic Club of Delaware and the Light Masters Square Club. Mr. Jay was past president of the Association for Systems Management, and served on the data processing advisory groups for the State of Delaware, Delaware Technical and Community College, Goldey Beacom College, and Neumann College.

Doug is survived by his wife - Eileen Thomas Jay; Sons H. Douglas Jay III and Thomas Bradley Jay; and a granddaughter - Devon Alexis Jay.

The funeral service was held on Thursday, July 27, at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville and in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
