Sidney
Goldstein
 Age
88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by
family on June 13, 2012. Born and raised in Media, PA,
he was the son of the late Sara Goldstein. Sid graduated from Media High School where he participated in
many sports and was later active as a semi-pro basketball player. He was
inducted into the Media Area Sports Hall of Fame.
A World War II veteran, Sid served in the Pacific and was wounded during
the invasion of the Philippine Islands at Leyte.
He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was
a member of the American Legion, the Jewish War Veterans, and the Delaware
Veterans Post #1.
From 1958 until his retirement in 2003, Sid was the manager and then owner
of PenDel Real Estate Company in Wilmington.
He was President of the New Castle County Board of Realtors in 1978 and
President of the Delaware Association of Realtors in 1984. Sid was named
New Castle County Realtor of the Year in 1984 and was inducted into the
Realtors Hall of Fame in 1999.
Sid was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Granite-Corinthian Lodge,
the Scottish Rite, and the Masonic Club of Delaware. He was an avid Philadelphia sports
fan and enjoyed horse racing, having owned horses with his brother Bernard
that ran at Brandywine Raceway.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Dolores; his son, Steven
and his wife Soraya of Avondale, PA; sister-in-law Faye Goldstein of
Wilmington; and nephews and nieces Kenneth, Mark, Carl, Larry, Robert, and
Richard Goldstein, Fred Flanzer, Karen Marinoff, Charna Flanzer, Roz Schurr
and Carol Goldstein.
In addition to his mother, Sid was preceded in death by four brothers,
Bernard, Henry, Albert, and Marvin, two sisters, Florence Vinokur and Anne
Flanzer, and cousin Harold Reckson and nephew Lee Goldstein.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 18 at the Schoenberg
Memorial Chapel, 519 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank his many caregivers for their assistance,
compassion and support.
