RAYMOND V. CARR
Raymond V. Carr Age 78 of
Wilmington, DE passed away December 25, 2002 at home.
Born in Parsons, PA, Ray was the son of the late Patrick J. Carr and Mary
Cahill Carr. He grew up in Wilkes Barre, PA (East End). He attended
Canisius College in Buffalo, NY until he enlisted in the Army in 1943,
where he served with the 1269th Engineering Combat Battalion. After the war
ended, he graduated cum laud from the University of Scranton in Scranton,
PA.
Ray came to Wilmington in 1948, where he began a career with the DuPont
Company in the agriculture & chemicals department. He retired in 1985
after 37 years of service. Since that time he had been a real estate agent
with Prudential, Fox & Roach.
Ray was a member of Delaware Veterans Post #1 and VFW Post #2907.
He was also a 4th Degree Grand Knight with the Knights of
Columbus.
He was a member of the DuPont Country Club for 46 years, where he served on
the social and dance committees. Ray enjoyed ballroom dancing and
participating in the LPGA Golf Tournament each year.
He was an avid fan of University of Delaware football.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie McDonald Carr; a daughter,
Kathleen Carr Halliday of Bethany Beach, DE; 3 grandchildren, Emily K.
Halliday of Annapolis, MD, Sara E. McMahon of Williamstown, NJ and Adam D.
Halliday of Annapolis, MD; and 1 great grandchild, Joseph Patrick McMahon
of Williamstown, NJ. He was anticipating the birth of a great
granddaughter in April 2003.
There was a memorial mass at the St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman
Catholic Church, Old Church Rd., Greenville, DE on Saturday, January 4,
2003 at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Delaware Hospice, 3515
Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810 or to the Ronald McDonald House, PO
Box 1995, Wilmington, DE 19899.
